This is the most expensive zucchini we've ever bought. They apparently started using these plastic bags to grow them so that 1) they would grow and be constricted into the shape of these bags- therefore creating zucchini that were very uniform in shape and 2) made a protective packaging so the vegetable was protected from bruising and scratches during shipping.
According to the one Korean youtube video I watched on this topic, there is backlash from the public now because of unnecessary plastic use and waste and there is movement to just let the veg grow naturally. But I still see this at the store so.... 🤷
I do think these zucchinis taste marginally better because the skin is very thin compared with the regular zucchini I usually find at our regular grocery store.
Having said alllll this, we do use the regular zucchinis and have made soybean soup with them as well because we just can't make it out to the Korean grocery every week. So overall we're talking preferences and options. Honestly, is there ever a good reason to buy an almost $10 zucchini?
Not for us.
But it's good to have choices, right?
