What should your heart rate be during cardio?
📊 A good general recommendation is to stay in zone 2 60-70% Max HR
But we can get more specific than that.
🏃🏽♂️ Untrained individuals tend to have a lower lactate threshold that can be as low as 50-60% MHR
Long steady state cardio may need to be low end or below zone 2 (ex: 55-60% MHR)
🚴🏽♂️ Well trained endurance athletes have a higher lactate threshold around 70-80%
They may be able to push into zone 3 around 75% MHR for long endurance sessions.
📈 Zone 2 is still a good guideline, but individualize to the athlete you’re working with.
