A major setback for onion farmers in Nashik as the government has reduced the RoDTEP (Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products) benefit on onion exports by 50%. Earlier, exporters were receiving 1.9% incentive support, but with immediate effect, it has been reduced to 0.95%. The RoDTEP scheme was introduced to encourage exports, and this reduction may impact onion exporters and processing industries significantly. Farmers fear that the move could further affect onion prices and export competitiveness. Our correspondent Abhijit Sonawane spoke to onion farmers to understand their concerns.
