A crew on the once-in-a-lifetime passage through the Eagle Nebula, where stars are being born. The work has stopped. Nobody ordered it to stop. The shantyman opens his mouth and what comes out is not a count but an invocation, and his crew answers by climbing, voice over voice, into cathedral harmonics that none of them knew they could reach. The most beautiful piece in the suite.
Movement IX of the Star Shanty Suite — a ten-part operatic space shanty cycle where each movement captures a different star system through the lens of a spacefaring work song, performed entirely in invented alien languages. No translation exists. None could hold what this carries.
