The Meihan Road is a key post-disaster reconstruction project for the "5.12" Wenchuan earthquake. After the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, Jiangxi Province organized a construction team to build this road across the Mukekeliangzi, which is 4,916 meters above sea level. During road construction, five Jiangxi engineers tragically died in a mudslide, the worst in 60 years.
On September 30, 2009, this 51-kilometer snow-capped mountain road was officially opened and named the "Meihan Highway," a combination of the initials of Meiwo and Hanniu townships. Because the road traverses a peak pass at an altitude of 4,916 meters, local Tibetan and Han Chinese have affectionately dubbed this bloodline road the "Sky Road....
