To qualify for filing a Camp Lejeune Water Contamination claim you must have been at Camp Lejeune for at least 30 days between 1953 and 1987. You also must have had exposure to contaminated water and have an illness that is caused from toxic water contamination.

The process for filing a lawsuit as part of the PACT Act is simplified into three steps:

1. Find a lawyer who is familiar with handling Camp Lejeune cases
2. File an administrative claim, or notice of intention to file a claim, with the US Government, which is specifically the Department of the Navy
3. The US Government has 180 days to respond and if they do not or deny the claim, you can file a formal lawsuit in federal court, to the Eastern District of North Carolina.

When filing a claim, first and foremost, you must be an eligible claimant. Once deemed eligible, a notice of intention to file a claim, or administrative claim may be filed. Often this is called a form 95. Within this, information will be provided including name, when they were at Camp Lejeune, what was their water exposure, illness this caused and what are the damages the person has suffered because of their exposure to toxic water. This form lays out this information and gives noticed to the government for them to then do their own investigation.

At this point, many claims may not be resolved and will result in filing a formal lawsuit in federal court. This will go through the formal court process of discovery, pleadings, arguments to judges and eventually you're entitled to a jury trial. At this point, a settlement is reached and settlement amounts and payouts are determined.
