Eccentric Exercise for Hamstring Tears and Overuse Injuries

Eccentric exercise for rehabilitation of sports injuries has not been researched much in the past but I wanted to pass on the information as I found it. The most common injuries addressed with eccentric exercises, especially early in the injury process are:
Hamstring tears
Lateral Epicondylitis or tennis elbow
Achillis Tendonitis or tendonosis.
This study is based on a 10-week eccentric hamstring exercise program. It demonstrates to us there is good reason to believe eccentric loading is a superior form of sports injury rehabilitation, in overuse injuries and muscle tears.
Although the samples have been small in all studies I have found, there is hope. I have personally seen great improvements in many of my clients with this style of sports injury rehabilitation.

Eccentric Hamstring vs. Concentric Hamstring Curls
10 week eccentric program used
Follow-up:
Increase in Maximum Hamstring Eccentric Strength
Increase in isometric hamstring strength
Increase in H:Q ratio
Eccentric Training “May in turn reduce the risk of sustaining a hamstring strain”
There are several forms of eccentric exercises for the hamstrings and which you use will depend on the area of the tear. The distal end of the hamstring responds better to one exercise that the origin point would.
If you would like to have an eccentric sports injury exercise program recommended to you a proper evaluation is in order. Prevention of many sports injuries can be attained if an athlete receives the following:
A proper movement screen
Player Specific Flexibility program
Player Specific Strength program (maybe eccentric or concentric depending upon each athlete and the condition of their body)
Correction of improper sports-specific techniques or skills
