Hi everyone! It's time for some new features in the video. I created some new pictures of our signs next to the tracks to make it more clear what signal or sign gives a prompt to lower or gain speed. I hope you will appreciate that. Let me know!
Today we get to drive in dense fog from Den Helder to Amsterdam. Almost the whole route we will be driving with about 75 to 125 meters of sight. We'll be sounding the horns a lot!
In the upcoming time I won't be publishing every two weeks but only when I have enough energy to create a new video for you all. It's a time of reflecting and rescheduling for me. So there will be video's but just a little less than normally. Don't worry. :)
0:00 Den Helder
We drive the full length of VIRM (10 carriages) for this line. Longer trains don't fit at the platforms from here to Alkmaar. As you can see the sight is minimal. Take extra care looking out for our light signals and other signs next to the tracks!
2:53 Den Helder Zuid
5:44 Sound the Horns!
Unguarded level crossing coming up. Time to sound the horns of the train until we've passed it. This way level crossing users are alarmed there's a train coming soon. Pity for those still in bed. But safety first!
8:00 Koegrasbrug (No Wires)
Time to shut down the traction on the motors. This bridge doesn't have overhead wires. The pantographs loose contact just before the end of the wire because they reach their highest point. And slide right under the wire on the other side. This happens at three bridges towards Amsterdam.
9:03 Anna Paulowna (Long Approach)
Because the braking distance between the yellow-4 signal and the yellow signal is too short we must limit to 130km/h three light signals before Anna Paulowna. The fixed 13 and 4 on the light signals mean we must've reached the speed before passing the next light signal.
9:52 Station Announcement
The long stretched S means there's a platform closing in at braking distance from that point.
15:46 Sound the Horns!
Unguarded level crossing!
17:31 Schagen
26:07 Heerhugowaard
30:26 Bolspoorbrug
31:34 Alkmaar Noord
The flashing 6 on the light signal means we have to limit to 60km/h but we don't need to reach that speed at the next light signal. We must keep slowing down and make sure we will stop before the next red light signal at Alkmaar Noord. The lower the flashing number, the shorter the braking distance between the next yellow and the final red light signal.
35:23 Alkmaar (Arrival)
35:57 Spoorbrug Noordhollandsch Kanaal (No Wires)
See comment for the Koegrasbrug above.
40:25 Alkmaar (Departure)
The lower light signals always allow a maximum speed of 40km/h. Not more. We pass two on departure. After we pass a green light we must first wait to fully pass a speed sign before speeding up.
42:22 Sound the Horns! Sorry Alkmaar!
This level crossing is located in the woods and is open for public. Therefor I start sounding the horns so early.
44:12 Heiloo
With bad sight we drive from light signal to light signal. We are not allowed to gain speed before that on departure.
49:54 Castricum
Slowing down on light signals but there are also speed limits to remember for departure! We leave a annoying passenger at Castricum.
55:28 Sound the Horns!
Unguarded level crossing.
56:30 Uitgeest
58:50 Krommenie-Assendelft
Slowing down on this part of the line.
59:54 Spoorbrug Krommenie-Wormerveer (No Wires)
See comment Koegrasbrug above.
1:00:40 Wormerveer
Slowly the fog is clearing up.
1:02:29 Zaandijk Zaanse Schans
1:03:12 Koog aan de Zaan
1:03:42 Zaandam
Right after departure I warn passengers about the safety rules when it comes to stepping, bicycling, skateboarding etc. We don't want you to fall on off the platform. So walk or you possibly won't talk ever again.
1:07:50 Hemtunnel
1:08:59 Hemtunnel Connection (Camera Check)
Back to 80km/h because are about the switch tracks. Don't forget to smile for the camera!
1:10:40 Amsterdam Houtrakpolder Connection
1:11:18 Westhaven Connection (Approach Amsterdam Sloterdijk)
1:11:28 Radarweg Connection
1:13:21 Amsterdam Sloterdijk (Departure)
Don't forget to remember our last signals for the maximum speed.
1:14:58 Overbrakerpolder Connection
1:15:41 Singelgracht Connection
1:15:27 Amsterdam Centraal (Approach)
1:16:12 Singelgrachtbrug (Houtmanspoorbrug)
1:17:06 Westelijk Eiland + Amsterdam Centraal
Final stop for this ride. Check out that white light signal. On approach this signal does not mean anything when it's showing a white light. This particular light signal with the yellow triangle is only shown at Amsterdam Centraal.
I hope you enjoyed the ride with the new features in the video. Let me know what you think of it! Cheers! :D
