The Last Wagon (1956)
Directed by Delmer Daves, this intense and visually stunning CinemaScope Western stars Richard Widmark as "Comanche" Todd, a white man raised by Native Americans who is being transported to face trial for murder. While he is being led in chains across the desert, the wagon train he is part of is brutally ambushed by Apache warriors, leaving only a small group of teenagers alive. Desperate for survival, the young survivors must rely on the very man their elders feared and shackled. Todd reluctantly takes command, using his deep knowledge of the wilderness and Apache tactics to lead the group to safety. The film is a masterful blend of survivalist action and a social commentary on prejudice, featuring breathtaking landscapes and a powerful performance by Widmark. The cast also includes Felicia Farr and a young Nick Adams.
