How's it going Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today, on our 2019 Honda Ridgeline, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Pop & Lock custom tailgate handle with a manual lock, as well as a power lock.Many people decide to put a cover on their truck to help keep the items inside more secure, only to find out even when the truck itself is locked that the tailgate will still open regardless and that kind of defeats the purpose, the cover itself. And that's where the Pop & Lock is going to come into play. It's going to allow you to keep your tailgate locked up, keeping your items inside of your bed, secure. And it's going to be really easy to do that. Not only are you going to be able to lock it from inside of your cab, using your factory lock switch, you're going to be able to unlock and lock it using your key fob.

And, since we have a manual key, you're also going to be able to do it using the included keys, which is one of the things that sets us apart. Many of the other ones are just electronically controlled. But I, however, like having that peace of mind, knowing if something we're to happen to those electronics, you can still easily open and lock your tailgate.And in our case, we have a Ridgeline that also has a lever down here and swings the tailgate open from the side. So, if your vehicle is like that as well, Pop & Lock is also going to lock that handle.Many of the questions we get is if the backup camera is going to work and the answer is yes. That's going to fit perfectly into the handle, just like it would from the factory.

So ultimately, this is going to give you a little bit more peace of mind, knowing everything is secure, regardless of the situation. As far as the installation goes, it is going to take a little bit of time and be somewhat involved, but it's definitely going to be worth it in the end. Speaking of which, let's go ahead and put it on together now.To begin our installation, we're going to need to remove this trim panel here along the edge of our tailgate by removing four Phillips-head screws. So, screws are out of the way. We're able to kind of pull back on the trim panel and set it to the side.

This piece is also going to have to come off and it's held in place with multiple tabs like this. So, to get these off, what we're going to do is tap our trim here towards the passenger side and then once those tabs line up with the larger openings, we can remove it. Now, we're going to take off this trim piece and to do that, we're going to remove seven Torx bit screws, just like this. We're going to have four here on this side and then three along this back edge. So I'm going to use a T30 Torx bit to remove these.Once we have all those removed, I can lift up on our panel and set it off to the side.

At this point, we can remove our tailgate handle. So to do that, we're going to find this rod, it's connected to this green tab and disconnect it. What we'll do is kind of put pressure on that green tab and separate it from our rod, then we can just lift it out of place. Now, if you look down inside here in our handle, on each side we're going to have a 10 millimeter bolt holding our handle in so we're going to remove those. Once we get one of them out and go to the other side, and I would recommend kind of putting your hand underneath that handle that way it's going to prevent any damage if it does happen to fall out. You loosen them up, pull our bolts out, and then we can kind of put some downward pressure on our handle and get it to come out just like this.To disconnect it, we're just going to follow our wire down and we're going to have a tab here on this clip. So, you push that center section down and then separate the two tabs. Now, if it's still attached to the body of the vehicle, there'll be another tab very similar to this one on the bottom side of this plug, you'll push that down to release it. And there's that tab I was talking about. Now, once we have that disconnected, what we can do is work our handle back out, completely dropping it out through the bottom and now we're able to transfer our camera to our new handle.To remove our camera it's going to be held in place by two Phillips-head screws. Pull those out, take your camera and set our factory handle to the side, bring in our new one. And we can resecure it in place using the included machine screw and flat washer. We'll take o
