This is Curt with etrailer, and today we're gonna take a look at the Thule OutPace Hitch Bike Rack and we're gonna see how it works with our 2025 Ford Escape. And when it comes to the OutPace, we're gonna have a weight capacity of 55 pounds per tray. So we got two 55 pound bikes on it so that it is gonna accommodate some of the more lightweight e-bikes that are out there on the market today. And it's also just covering the basics. It's a frame mounted bike rack, meaning that it's going to attach to the frame whether it be here on the cross section, the seat stem, right here, really anywhere along this area that you need to keep it upright and secure. It's not a wheel mount, so it is gonna be able to be used with fenders and things like that.
However, if you have a carbon fiber frame or a custom frame or a frame that you really don't want to attach the bike rack to, you're gonna be looking for a wheel mounted bike rack. And we have several options available here at etrailer. As far as the arm attachment here to the frame, this is a padded ratcheting strap so you can get it really, really tight and secure on here. There is a lock to it as well that's going to be key to like to our hitch mechanism down there, so it's gonna be able to secure the bike to the rack and the rack into your hitch receiver. Now this arm is both telescoping and oscillating, so you can raise it and shorten it and you can turn it a couple of different angles just to make sure that you get the right fit.
So for reference, the bike that we have on here today is a large frame and it has 15, 15.5 inch handlebars as well. So let's take a look at how it fits. Even with this larger bike, we're really not in any danger of the bike coming into contact with the back of the vehicle. Even if we're on a rougher patch of road with a lot of shaking around, we're really in no danger either from the pedals or from our handlebars. But like with any hitch bike rack, we are gonna have some visual obstruction coming outta the back.
First and foremost, it does kind of pick the bike up pretty high. You're gonna see a lot of the bike through your rear window. Our taillights will be partially blocked, and really important for you and the driver, our rear view camera is gonna be partially blocked as well. So it's really important to understand just what kind of footprint this is gonna leave behind your vehicle. So if we measure from the bumper to the furthest point on the rack, we are just under 26 inches, so about 25 and three quarter inches, just bear that in mind.
You got a little bit more than two feet extra coming off of your bumper back here and you're gonna wanna be able to keep that in mind whenever you're backing into a tight space or trying to parallel park. The other thing that we always like to take a look at is what is our ground clearance So if we go again to the furthest point of the bike rack, we're gonna have a lot of ground clearance with this with just over two feet of ground clearance. Now, you do always wanna be conscious of what's back here whenever you come up along a steep incline or driveway, but two feet of ground clearance for a hitch bike rack is actually quite a bit. And I had mentioned earlier that this bike rack is gonna be able to accommodate bikes up to 55 pounds. However, there is no load assist with it, no ramp or anything like that that can go with it. So if you have a heavier bike, if we're gonna measure from the ground up to our tray, you're gonna wanna make sure that you're comfortable lifting that bike up about 22 inches in order to get them loaded and unloaded off of the OutPace. Will you have access into your cargo space Will your lift gate have enough clearance in order to get in there And with the OutPace, you will. One of the things about this bike rack is that it's got a really unique mechanism in order to get it to tilt away. We've got this rubber cord right here. It's actually a metal cord wrapped in rubber. But what you're gonna do is just brace the bike, lift up on this, you'll see that red come out of the end there so you know that it's disengaged, and then you just slowly lower it away from the vehicle. Now, I can come around and I can get easy access into my cargo space with plenty of clearance in order to get in there. But the point is is if you're
