I wrote this song because today at the A-F-R-H we literally lived my YouTube mission — bringing people together — by doing the most heroic act known to retirees everywhere: moving chairs and tables.
We were sitting in the big dining room, talking loudly, laughing, pontificating a little too enthusiastically about world affairs, and making enough noise to qualify as a breakfast symposium.
A kind staff member came over and said, in the nicest possible way, “If you’re going to pontificate, let’s rearrange the tables so everyone fits better.”
So what did we do?
We didn’t argue.
We didn’t sulk.
We moved chairs.
We slid tables.
We made space for wheelchairs, walkers, and electric scooters.
And suddenly strangers became neighbors again.
That’s my whole mission with I Still Sing and my A-F-R-H videos — not politics, not noise, not ego — but connection.
This song is funny, upbeat, and true, because sometimes unity doesn’t come from speeches.
It comes from pushing furniture together and saying, “Sit with us.”
Bob Santero was there.
Richard Strait was there in spirit.
And the A-F-R-H spirit of community showed up loud and clear.
