I didn’t write this song because I was feeling poetic.
I wrote it because after seventy-eight years on this planet, I finally noticed something important:
People don’t belong with perfect people.
They don’t belong with impressive people.
They don’t even belong with people who “mean well.”
They belong with people who care.
Care doesn’t show up in résumés, titles, or rules.
It shows up when someone knocks on your door.
When someone remembers your name.
When someone listens without rushing away.
This song tells the story of a life shaped by service, family, loss, community, and the ongoing search for real connection.
From being drafted young…
To raising two sons…
To becoming a grandfather…
To living and serving in community today…
This is a story about learning that being useful isn’t the same as being loved — and that both matter.
If you’ve ever felt:
• Helpful but unseen
• Needed but lonely
• Strong but tired
• Still hoping for connection
This song is for you.
Because in the end, people don’t belong with systems.
They belong with people who care.
Thank you for listening.
