There will be more peaceful demonstrations in Tavate if locals' rights are infringed, residents have said.
Some of them had been arrested on March 4, 2021, when they wanted to protest the rundown healthcare condition in Taita Taveta county--and were charged with assembling "unlawfully", a count they denied.
However, on November 26, 2021, Taveta Resident Magistrate Louiser Adisa acquitted all, saying the prosecution failed to prove its case.
The verdict has emboldened the community whose rights have for long been curtailed by law enforcers.
