Hamlet is the Prince of Denmark, thrown into turmoil by his father's sudden death and his mother's hasty remarriage. His father's ghost appears, revealing that his uncle Claudius poisoned him, and commands revenge. Hamlet vows vengeance but cannot act, continuously hesitating. This is Hamleteia Melancholia—melancholic delay.
Hamlet pretends madness while seeking to uncover the truth. Through a play, he confirms his uncle's guilt, yet still cannot draw his sword. While he delays, tragedies unfold in chain reaction. He accidentally kills Polonius, Ophelia's father, causing Ophelia to go mad and drown. Ophelia's brother Laertes vows revenge and joins with Claudius to duel Hamlet with a poisoned sword.
During the duel, Queen Gertrude drinks poisoned wine and dies. Both Hamlet and Laertes are infected with poison. Finally, Hamlet kills Claudius, but it is too late. Only corpses remain on stage. A tragedy of losing everything through endless delay.
Within this work are twelve psychological phenomena. A mother's betrayal, a usurper's guilt, destruction of innocence, torrent of revenge, feigned madness, theater of conscience, faithful witness—the map of human psychology that Shakespeare drew four hundred years ago remains valid today.
This work is musical lyrics created for the Mythozoesis Project's Literaturpaideia Series, based on William Shakespeare's Hamlet (1601). All lyrics are newly created based on the original storyline and have no connection to any existing musical productions. The psychological phenomenon concepts appearing in this work (Hamleteia Melancholia, Gertrudeia, Ophēleia, etc.) are original academic terminology of the Mythozoesis Project.
