Sweet Granadilla - Passiflora ligularis. The sweetest of the passionfruits and my favourite fruit

Описание: The Sweet Granadilla (known in some countries just as Granadilla, even if this name is also given to other passionfruits) is a fruit produced by the passionflower Passiflora ligularis, and this is definitely my favourite passonfruit and, actually, my favourite fruit of all. Passiflora ligularis is a climbing vine growing more than 6 metrres, distributed in South America. It doesn't tolerate extreme heat or cold, with optimum temperature range being between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. The leaves are heart shaped, medium green, and the flowers are incredibly beautiful, with greenish-white petals and sepals and two rows of filaments, white striped with blue and purple, fragrant. The ripe fruit is orange with white dots, egg shaped and about 6-8 cm long. The flavour is incredibly sweet and juicy, almost as if you are eating a mix of fig jelly and juice, and is not acidic as other passionfruits such as the Curuba (Passiflora mollissima) and the Maracuya (Passiflora edulis), and in addition is also very fragrant and refreshing. Each fruit contains a multitude of small, black seeds, that can be eaten with the rest of the pulp and juice of the passionfruit (I just eat it with a spoon). I saved some seeds to try to grow, and hope to be luckier this time as in the past I didn't have any success wth this species.
