Welcome back to The Green Yard and an exciting planting video! I have been looking for this plant for a long time and finally found it, the Sweet Granadilla. They are native to the North Western part of South America, including Peru. If you remember, my wife is from Peru and her favorite fruit is actually the Sweet Granadilla. They are a variety of Passion Fruit vine that creates a large, round, orange fruit. On the inside are crunchy seeds and a sweet, pulpy flesh. They are quite refreshing and very delicious. They like a warmer climate with mild winters and start having issues if the temperatures drop below 40 degrees. They also like a slightly acidic soil and, in Phoenix, enjoy growing into full sun. This means that their main trunks need to get shade after around 10am. It also means that they require cold protection in the winter (while young) and agricultural Sulphur to lower the soil PH. I planted our new Sweet Granadilla in the tropical food forest part of The Green Yard and it will be surrounded by our Soursop, Papaya, Jaboticaba, Loquat and Santol trees. If you have any questions please comment below. Also, if you want to see a video about a specific plant or tree that I have in The Green Yard please let me know.
