Las Vegas police rejoins controversial immigration program amid safety concerns

Описание: The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is set to rejoin a controversial federal immigration enforcement program, marking a significant shift in its policy.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill announced that Metro is applying for the "Warrant Service Officer" section of the ICE 287(g) program.

This move will allow Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) 48 hours to take custody of undocumented immigrants set to be released from the Clark County Detention Center.

Sheriff McMahill emphasized that the decision was not influenced by Las Vegas being listed as a sanctuary jurisdiction. "The reason I did that, quite frankly, I was seeing too many people with very heinous crimes getting out of our jail," said McMahill.
