Nicola Killean reads 'Let's Explore Our Rights' for Scottish Book Week

The book takes young readers on a journey to discover rights like having a safe home, being healthy, learning, and playing.

The book which features iconic Scots landmarks is aimed at children aged up to five. It was beautifully illustrated by Corinna Campbell and takes readers on a journey to discover rights like having a safe home, being healthy, learning, and playing. The book supports early years practitioners to spark first conversations about human rights with very young children.

In the video, Nicola explains:

“Rights are promises made to you to make sure you have everything you need to grow up happy and healthy. It’s so important that children learn about their rights and that the adults around them understand them too.”

The Commissioner also highlighted the book’s role in empowering young children to understand their rights and use their voices:

“Your rights are always with you, and no one can take them away,”
