Описание: This story first appeared in the collection New Ghost Stories, released by Ward, Lock, Bowden & Co. in London in 1893 as one of their ‘Popular Sixpenny’ paperbacks.

In “The Trainer’s Ghost,” a publican and a tout plot to drug a rival’s racehorse on the eve of the big event, only to find themselves up against old Alick Coulson—a trainer dead and buried for fifteen years—and his spectral mount, Blue Ruin, the very horse that trampled him to death.

“Lettice Galbraith” was the nom de plume of Lizzie Susan Gibson (1859–1932), a Yorkshire‐born writer whose true identity remained obscure for over a century. She burst onto the literary scene in the early 1890s with several short ghost stories—and then abruptly vanished from print. Recent archival research in the British Library’s Society of Authors records has confirmed her real name and life story.
