CXC 2022: Spotlight on Barbara Brandon-Croft
Barbara Brandon-Croft is the nation’s first Black woman cartoonist in the mainstream press. Her comic strip Where I’m Coming From debuted in 1989 in the Detroit Free Press before becoming nationally distributed by Universal Press Syndicate until 2005. Brandon-Croft’s work is currently on display alongside that of her cartoonist father, Brumsic Brandon Jr., in the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum exhibit STILL… Racism in America. Barbara will be joined in a conversation about her life and career with Dr. Susan Kirtley, Eisner-award winning author and Professor of English, director of composition, and director of comics studies at Portland State University.
