Families to benefit from cheaper tests for inherited cholesterol condition

Описание: Family members of patients diagnosed with inherited high levels of bad cholesterol can now access subsidised genetic testing at the country’s first Genomic Assessment Centre. Officially opened on Jan 19, the centre focuses on identifying Familial Hypercholesterolaemia, a condition affecting about one in 140 Singaporeans, most of whom remain undiagnosed. More than 600 cases were seen in the second half of last year, with a take-up rate of around 70 per cent. Authorities say test results will not be used for insurance underwriting.
