UPDATE 4/18/2023: The blower motor has been replaced and this 'bolt roars like it should once again.
**SIREN STARTS RIGHT AWAY**
Location: Pond Run Road & Crooked Creek Lane
System: Clermont County
Testing schedule: First Wednesdays at noon, weather permitting
Testing time: 11:56:25 AM, 12:00:13 PM
Cycle when tested: Full alert
Cameras used: Canon Powershot SX70HS (tight shot & audio), Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra (wide shot)
Recording distance from siren: ~100 feet
Loudness: Kinda quiet - 93.9 dBA, 96.8 dBC
Other enthusiasts present: Alex (@SteelCitySirensandTrains )
Other notes: First things first, special thanks to Alex for letting me use his tight shot footage of this siren for this video. I had my equipment set up right in front of his, but since this went off early and I didn't want to get in his shot while the siren was sounding, I was unable to ever get my shots set up and start recording on either of my cameras. I still got BTS footage though. I originally wasn't going to upload this test, but since Alex didn't and this will likely be the only video of this siren with the way it is here, I decided to just use Alex's tight shot footage and some of my BTS footage for the wide shot to make this video. Of course, since it first went off four minutes early, both of us missed the windup, but it went off again at noon and we were both still recording, so at least we caught the windup of the second activation. I believe only the sirens in Pierce Township (and possibly Union Township) were activated at 11:56 since the FSK tone came through the scanner twice and the sirens that go on the two-tone sets only went at noon as far as I can tell. I'm not sure if this was caused by a radio malfunction or the EMA accidentally clicking a button early, although the county did have a systemwide failure just two months later.
This Thunderbolt has quite the history to it. It was originally 5/6 port, and it was pretty sick. Sometime between 2017 and 2020, Werden put in another 5/6 port chopper in it, but it was still sick, albeit not quite as bad. Then in April of 2021, he put in an ex-Hamco 4/5 port chopper and was set to chopper level 7, and it sounded so much better. According to the people who've been to this as 4/5 port, it was extremely loud. With that, along with this being the last known 4/5 port Thunderbolt in Ohio I still hadn't heard in person, I was really looking forward to this test. Unfortunately though, much to me and Alex's dismay, the blower has stopped working since it was last recorded. When we heard this thing wound up without that classic Thunderbolt roar, it was like every galaxy in the universe had disappeared. It was not loud at all. I really hope Werden will be able to fix the blower sometime fairly soon, since I still want to know just how loud this thing is at its fullest potential. After the test, we met with Connor and his friend, who were recording the 5M 4/5 port Thunderbolt on Jenny Lind Road, at Wendy's for lunch. I hope you all enjoy this video!
