Tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high as a US aircraft carrier group moves closer to the Middle East — a deployment Trump described as an “armada.” While Trump has signalled hesitation over immediate action, analysts warn the growing military buildup keeps the option of strikes firmly on the table.

At the UN Human Rights Council, officials raised alarm over Iran’s use of capital punishment against detainees, as Iranian clerics lashed out at Trump and warned of retaliation against US interests if Iran is attacked.
