When I worked in a residential treatment facility over 9 years ago, I remember feeling perplexed by the kids and teens I would talk to when I would mention their childhood abuse and they would give me a blank stare. One 18 year old discussed the emotional and sexual incest going on in her family and when I referred to her as an "abused child" she replied "who me? Abused? No way. My parents were very mean; quite cold when I think about it, but never abusive. I was happy. It was just terrible when they would get mad."

What she didn't understand is that abuse comes in many forms and can be hidden by the parent's periodic "nice mood."

Family abuse can be confusing as well, especially if the majority of your family looks favorably upon the person you are accusing of abusing you.

In this video, I will discuss family abuse and break it down to give you a clear understanding of the signs in your very own family.
