George: [00:00:13] Discovery is tremendously important so that we can find out what evidence the District Attorney's Office has or the police department has in order to try to convict our client. That could be anywhere from photographic evidence, witness statements, DNA, a multitude of different bits of information or evidence that is going to be used against our clients. We're not obligated to prove our client innocent. We have to -- they have to prove -- the District Attorney's Office has to prove our client guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. We don't have to prove anything. And if they give us the evidence, we know what they're going to use to prove against our clients. And they have to do that. They have to provide us with all the evidence that they intend to use against our client.

Andy: [00:00:57] And I think that's a very good point. Whether our client is guilty of a specific charge is not our job or really not our interest. From our perspective, what we are really focused on, whether or not the District Attorney's Office can prove our client guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and they have to be able to prove each and every element of the crime beyond a reasonable doubt. So, we're rarely, if ever, in a position where we ask our clients whether or not they committed a crime, because for us, it really doesn't matter. It matters whether or not the District Attorney can prove that. And that's why the discovery is so important, so we can review all the evidence, so we can have informed discussions with our client as to whether or not they want to proceed towards trial, motion practice and hearings, or if this is a case that they may want to discuss potential resolution, a plea bargain.
