Tanfield Railway is the Oldest Railway in the World.
It’s a Heritage Railway run by Retired Railway Drivers, Engineers and Volunteers.
The Railway line is six miles long and was built in 1725 to transport coal from the collieries in the River Tyne area for shipment throughout the world.
We booked an Afternoon Tea on the Train at 4.05pm from East Tanfield Station and our tickets gave us unlimited travel on the train throughout the day.
We travelled on the stream train passing Causey Arch, an 80ft tall Bridge which is the oldest surviving single arched bridge in the World.
Passing Andrews House and Marley Hill Workshops, filled with Steam, Diesel and Freight Trains in the Engine Sheds.
Sunniside is at the end of the line where the train turns around for the return journey back to East Tanfield Station.
Marley Hill Workshops and Afternoon Tea will be shown in another video.
We had a fantastic day riding the train and seeing all the sites at Tanfield Railway, it’s a must for any Train Enthusiasts.
