Alex Mann shared that he was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3 and how over the past six years; Alex has been on a mission traveling to break the stigma between Law Enforcement and the Autism Community.

“I believe it’s important for Officers to be aware of people like me when interacting; how you can make us feel comfortable and not automatically assume that someone on the spectrum is breaking the Law but more likely trying to cope with the tense situation at hand”, shared Alex Mann, Autism Advocate.

Cliffside Park Police Department Chief Yakup Zoklu, shared that the Cliffside Park Police Department is Alex’s 501st Police Department visit and 1st Police Department visit in Bergen County to host him.”

“We are extremely privileged to be hosting Alex Mann to teach Officers and educate Officers about Autism and interactions between individuals and law enforcement”, stated Lieutenant Mert Zoklu.

New Jersey State Police Sergeant Michael Guenther stated, “We serve everyone in New Jersey and we make sure that we serve everybody the correct way and that we appreciate everybody so the more awareness we have, the more knowledge we have; the more power we have to do a good job.

“The innovation of going out and researching and bringing the young man in here like that; in my years of law enforcement; I’ve seen nothing like that; so I take my hat off to Chief Yakup Zoklu and his staff for initiating this and putting this forth”, shared Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton.

Mayor Thomas Calabrese expressed how extremely proud he is of our Police Department. There were multiple law enforcement agencies in attendance as well as Members of the Cliffside Park Borough Council as well as Borough of Fort Lee Mayor Mark J. Sokolich along with N.J. State Police; Port Authority Police; North Bergen Police Department; Fort Lee Police Department; the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department; the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the NYPD.
