Let’s talk about how Joseph knew and fulfilled his purpose
•And how we can know and fulfill our purpose.

Keys to discovering and fulfilling your purpose:

1. Believe that you have a purpose

Everyone has a purpose.
•God doesn’t create anything without a purpose.
•Every animal has a purpose and every plant has a purpose.
•Everything He created was purposeful!

Eccl 3:1

God has a specific purpose for everything and everyone.
•God has a goal in mind for your life!

2. Understand that God is in control

Gen 45:5

Gen 45:7-8

I want you to notice the words “God sent me”!
•Joseph had a great perspective!
•I believe this is what kept him serving God
•He believed that God was in control of his destiny and not people!

There are times when God allows and there are times when God causes.
•And there are times when God takes circumstances and turns them for our good!

Rom 8:28

You and I may fall and make mistakes and bad things may happen
•But God is able to work everything for our good
•And His purpose for our lives!

God has a purpose for your life
•And that purpose is higher than your mistakes
•And other people’s wrong attitudes and actions!

Isa 55:10-11

3. Discover your gift and your direction

The Lord showed me the key to discovering our purpose.
•It is in discovering our gifts.
•Why would He give us gifts that don’t relate to our purpose?

Each of us has a primary gift and God gave that to us so we could accomplish our purpose.
•We may be strong in 2 or 3 gifts and all of them relate to our purpose!
•What is your gift?
•What is your direction?

Rom 12:4-8
Even though we are one body, we each have a purpose.
•What is your purpose?
•I’m not saying what are the specifics of everything that you’re ever going to do?

•I’m saying what is the major or motivating gift that God has given you? What churns your butter?
•What floats your boat?
•What energizes you?
•What jazzes you?
•What do you get excited about?

(1) Motivator – Desires to motivate people to serve God

(2) Servant - Desires to meet needs of people on a practical basis

(3) Teacher – Desires to study and present truths to people

(4) Encourager – Desires to admonish and encourage people

(5) Giver – Desires to meet needs of people on a financial basis

(6) Administrator – Desires to lead people through organization

(7) Sympathizer – Desires to identify and empathize with people

All of these have to do with people!
•Our purpose is to help people.
•We serve God by helping people!
•We are different and have different gifts but the best way I know to discover your purpose and destiny is to discover your gift!

This is a direction.
•Are there specifics related to my purpose? Yes!
•Will I ever know those specifics? Yes!
•When? After I do them!

Joseph didn’t know the specifics of his purpose and destiny.
•He only had a dream.
•The dream was a direction but not all the details!

Couldn’t Satan have told Joseph this many times?
•You were at the wrong place at the wrong time.
•You’ve missed your purpose.
•You’re being sold as a slave.
•You’re going to prison!
•You’re never going to be a leader!

How many times did it look like he was getting back on his feet only to have another setback?
•Don’t you think he could have given up and gotten discouraged?
•Don’t get discouraged!
•Don’t believe the lie that you’ve missed your destiny.

4. Set your course and be faithful

Being faithful is the main key!
•What if Joseph had given up?
•What if that day when he saw that the butler and the baker were sad, he’d said, “I’ve got my own problems”!

Joseph’s gift was leadership!
•His gift was obvious everywhere he went.
•When he quit talking about it, he rose to the surface!

Pro. 18:16 A man's gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.

How did Joseph end up where he was?
•How did he know God’s purpose for his life?
•I really don’t think he knew it until he did it!
•I think he realized it as he was doing it.

I think this is one of our major problems.
•We try to tell God what our purpose is and what the specifics are
•And when they should happen!

What were the keys to Joseph fulfilling his purpose?
•Obviously, all of the tests that we have talked about produced the character in Joseph that he needed!
•Humility, faithfulness, stewardship, moral purity, and integrity are all traits that he needed.

The Lord determines the direction.
•You determine how far you go!
•Many people sit around waiting for God to take them and open doors,
•But Joseph worked hard where he was and succeeded!

Joseph didn’t know the specifics of his purpose.
•But as we serve God and are faithful, the specifics come!
•Will we be faithful and let God determine the specifics?
•Will we believe and fulfill the purpose that God has for us?
