Pastor Troy Drake walks through all of Acts 18 with a deeply encouraging message for anyone who's tired, discouraged, or just going through a hard season. As Paul arrives in Corinth — the party capital of the Roman Empire — God meets him at every turn with exactly what he needs: fellowship, fruit from his labor, a personal word of assurance, unexpected favor, and the joy of investing in others.
Through five specific encouragements God gives Paul in this chapter, Pastor Troy reminds us that the Lord sees His weary servants and continually comes alongside them. Whether it's through a song, a scripture, a friendship, or a quiet word to the heart, God doesn't want us to grow weary in doing good — and He actively works to make sure we don't have to.
Key Scriptures:
Acts 18:1-28 (NKJV)
2 Thessalonians 3:13 — "Do not grow weary in doing good."
2 Corinthians 5:17 — "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation."
2 Corinthians 5:10 — The judgment seat (bema) of Christ
Romans 5:20 — "Where sin abounded, grace abounded much more."
James 4:15 — "If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that."
Romans 8:1 — "No condemnation for those in Christ Jesus."
Five Encouragements for the Weary:
1. Partners in the Ministry — Paul meets Aquila and Priscilla in Corinth. They share his trade, his faith, and his mission. God provides fellowship and a job when Paul needs both (vv. 1-3).
2. Seeing Good Results — Even in a wild city like Corinth, people are coming to faith. Crispus the synagogue ruler believes, and many Corinthians are saved and baptized. Where sin abounds, grace abounds much more (vv. 7-8).
3. A Word from God Himself — The Lord speaks to Paul in a vision with five specific promises: don't be afraid, don't keep silent, I am with you, no one will hurt you, and I have many people in this city (vv. 9-10).
4. Favor from an Unlikely Source — When Paul is dragged before the Roman governor Gallio, the case is dismissed. Sometimes encouragement comes from places you'd never expect (vv. 12-17).
5. Investing in Others — Paul retraces his steps to strengthen new believers. Aquila and Priscilla take Apollos aside and explain the full gospel to him. Pouring into others encourages us, too (vv. 22-28).
Key Takeaways:
God knows when you're afraid and speaks directly into that fear
"I am with you" — His presence is the greatest encouragement we can receive
Marriage can be a powerful ministry when a couple serves God together
All our plans should yield to the will of God — "If the Lord wills"
The bema seat of Christ is not about sin (already judged at the cross) but about rewards for how we invested our lives
Grace changes everything — you can't earn it, and you don't deserve it, but God offers it freely
One of the best cures for weariness is getting over ourselves and investing in someone else
Gospel Invitation:
Pastor Troy reminds us that salvation brings new life and a new start. If you haven't put your trust in Jesus Christ, you can do it right where you sit. Just ask God to come into your life and forgive you — and He will, because He loves you.
