Well, we have made it to the Elesa split in Blaze Black 2 Redux. When looking at my matchups in this ROM Hack, I knew that the Elesa split would give me the most trouble. The first three major trainers aren’t too bad but Flannery and Elesa worry me a lot.
Before we get into the major trainers though, let’s talk about what new upgrades we get in the Elesa split. In terms of new encounters, we get access to 6 new Pokémon in Steelix, Skarmory, Forretress, Scizor, Bronzong, and Bastiodon. In terms of new evolutions, we get Magneton and Klang though I don’t really use Klang in this split. We also get access to the Metal Coat which is paramount to unlocking evolutions in Steelix and Scizor. To those who don’t know how to get Metal Coats in Blaze Black 2 Redux, you can get Metal Coats from wild Bronzor in Relic Castle. They’re quite rare at a 5% chance but it is possible to get Metal Coats off wild Bronzor. Speaking of Bronzor, I needed to get 2 Bronzor with good IVs, one with Heatproof and one with Levitate. For the majority of the run, I will be using the Levitate Bronzor especially with Clay being on the horizon.
Now let’s talk about the major trainers of the Elesa split. In the Elesa split, there are five major trainers in Colress 1, Lenora and Hawes, Ingo and Emmet, Flannery, and Elesa. Colress is relatively easy when you have a Lucario on your team. The only risk was Magnemite paralyzing my Lucario with Thunder Wave. I was lucky enough to avoid Thunder Wave which led to a pretty clean fight.
Lenora and Hawes . I was hoping Lucario could’ve accomplished more in that match but a crit Wild Charge and the risk of Unfezant outspeeding meant Lucario couldn’t do much. Once Lenora’s side was down though, it was pretty straightforward from there. Even the Machamp was not a problem since Metang deals a lot of damage to it with Psychic.
After that, we face Ingo and Emmet. The hardest part of this battle comes in the leads since we have to face an Eelektross and Chandelure. We use Steelix to take out Chandelure with Rosa’s Simipour dealing the finishing blow. Once Rosa’s side is down, Scizor comes in to take out Espeon. From there, Scizor and Lucario finish off Emmet’s side to win us the battle.
But then, we have to face the actual roadblocks of this split, starting with Flannery. She’s already bad enough with her sun team that spams Overheat. However it’s made worse by the fact our team is weak to Fire. I did manage to find a strategy to get us through this battle though. My strategy for Flannery was to set up hazards with Steelix and Forretress so that Lucario can sweep her team. The only issue on Flannery’s team was her Rotom-Heat which we had to wear down in order to allow Lucario to finish it off. Once we find a way around Rotom-Heat, Lucario is able to finish off the rest of Flannery’s team, allowing us to win on our fifth attempt.
Once Flannery is down, all that’s left is to face Elesa. Elesa is quite terrifying since her team’s strategy involves spamming Discharge to power up her team. What’s worse is that this is a triple battle, so a lot can happen in one turn. If that wasn’t enough, Elesa’s team has a lot of coverage moves for my team such as Muddy Water, Close Combat, and Flare Blitz. However, in some weird twist, Elesa throws her whole plan to victory out the window by prioritizing Discharge spam over actual coverage. Ironically, her own strategy ended up being her own downfall, allowing me to beat Elesa on my first try.
With Elesa split out of the way, there’s only one more split I think will provide a significant challenge before we reach the League and that is the next split, Clay split. Mainly, it’s because the fifth gym leader has a full-on sand team thanks to permanent sandstorm. That being said, we do have a lot of Pokémon that match up well into Clay, including a few Pokémon that we will be getting very soon so look forward to seeing how that goes when the next episode comes out on Monday. See you then!
