Annie Lanzillotto recites a praise poem of her childhood expertise in: "How to Catch a Flyball in Oncoming Traffic," which she learned to do on Saint Raymond's Avenue, off Zerega Ave. This was one of the first poems Annie performed at open mic's throughout downtown New York City in the early 90's, and in her break out solo show: "Confessions of a Bronx Tomboy: My Throwing Arm, This Useless Expertise," 1993 at Under One Roof theater, and Manhattan Class Company, directed by Victoria MacElwayne, with live sound action by Eliza Ladd. In 2001, Annie took this poem to the Smithsonian Folk Life Festival in Washington D.C. where her performance installation "A Stickball Memoir" appeared in City Lore's "New York City Neighborhood Tent," earning her inclusion in the moniker "200 Essential New Yorkers." (NY Times). The poem is published in her book of poetry "Schistsong," her memoir "L is for Lion: an italian bronx butch freedom memoir," and in Steve Zeitlin's "Hidden New York."
