Location & Setting:
Waitsboro Campground sits on Lake Cumberland, one of the largest man-made lakes in the eastern United States with 1,200+ miles of shoreline.
Offers stunning elevated lake views
Campground Details:
A smaller, quieter Army Corps of Engineers campground with 17 RV sites (all with electric hookups) and 5 tent-only sites.
8 waterfront sites with views.
Amenities include flush toilets, showers, drinking water, laundry, and a dump station.
Season generally runs spring through fall (typically around May through October; check current dates).
Reservations made through Recreation.gov. Sites fill quickly in peak season because there are few of them.

*Fishing & Boating: Lake Cumberland is famous for bass, crappie, walleye and more bring your gear or rent a boat nearby.

*Paranormal Roadtrippers’ Nightmare Gallery (Somerset, KY): A quirky museum of haunted objects, cryptozoology, ghost lore, and pop-culture props - free admission by appointment and a fun stop for curious travelers.
*Big South Fork Scenic Railway: A heritage railroad in Stearns, KY, offering scenic rides along historic tracks through countryside and into the Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area - a great day trip adventure.
*General Burnside Island State Park & Burnside Marina: Nearby state park with golf, picnicking, boat rentals, and classic lakeside fun.
*Somerset, KY: Close town for groceries, restaurants, fuel, supplies, and other local attractions.

About 20–35 miles/ 30–55 minutes (varies by access point)
Includes small roadside waterfalls and creek cascades feeding into Lake Cumberland
Best visited after rain, many are informal stops rather than signed trailheads
Beaver Creek & Greasy Creek Areas (Lake Cumberland Region)
About 25–40 miles/ 40–60 minutes
Scenic backroad drives with seasonal cascades and short nature walks
More “exploration style” hikes — good for curious hikers, not developed trails
Mill Springs Battlefield Trails (Nancy, KY)

Not waterfalls, but a nice nearby hiking option with interpretive signage
Daniel Boone National Forest – Short Hikes & Scenic Walks

Forest roads and trailheads offer wooded hikes, wildlife viewing, and seasonal streams
Trails vary from short walks to longer day hikes depending on location
Good to Know-
Most nearby waterfalls are seasonal creek-fed falls, not large vertical waterfalls.
Larger, well-known waterfalls like Cumberland Falls are over an hour away (closer to 1.5–2 hours)
Tips:
Roads and dump station setup can be tight or steep, especially for larger rigs. Some RVers report skipping the dump station and dumping at their next stop.
