Easy Cropped Crochet Shrug (Beginner Friendly)| Plus Size && Any Size!

Today we are making this easy, and cute fall shrug! I was browsing pinterest, and went to my local farmers market and became entirely inspired to make my own shrug and this is what I came up with! You can totally make this your own, and even make this a full on sweater if you wanted to. I even think i might make me another sweater similar to this because I was so in love with the results of this.

There is no pattern for this because the pattern is so simple that you can literally customize it for yourself and is so basic. I do give directions and tips on how to do this if you would like to customize this for yourself if you do not want to make a 1X-2X size. If you are smaller, this would be cute as a oversized shrug too :)

My chest measurements were 15" across the top of my breast, and I chained to make 16" to give myself extra room while wearing it.

The multiples for this pattern are 3+2

The pattern goes:
Row 1: Create a slip knot, and chain 59 loosely*. 1 dc into the 8th chain from the hook. *skip 2 sts, 1 dc, ch-2* repeat * to ** across. In the end you will have 3 sts left, skip the last 2 ch's and end with 1 dc into the last st. (If you are making the plus size I am making, you will have 19 dc's + ch-2's)

Row 2: Ch-5 (this will count as a dc and a ch-2), 1 dc into the dc stitch, ch-2 (skipping the ch's and spaces ONLY working into the dc stitches ONLY), 1 dc, ch-2) across* until you get to the end. When ending, you will see the skipped 7 sts from row 1, you want to put 1 dc into the 3 st from the top of the chain.

Row 3-Row 8 (or until you get the length you want): repeat row 2.

Row 9 (neck opening- which you should do once you got the length in rows you wanted for the front of your shrug): Ch-5, (1 dc, ch-2) into the next 3 dc stitches. Chain up 35, skipping 33 dc + ch-2's, dc to join to the next available dc which should be the 4th st from the last st of the row, and continue to work as normal until the end with the ch-2, 1 dc + ch-2, across.

Row 10: Repeat row 2, and work across that chain bridge as if you were working your row normally.

Row 11-Row 17: Repeat Row 10. (after you do row 10, row 11-17 will be your second panel which is the back of the shrug)

When you are ending your second panel (which will be an odd number row) , be sure you are ending on the right side facing of your work which you want so when you fold your shrug, your tail will align and be to your left side so you can begin working on your left shoulder.

After row 17, fold your work. Then slip stitch the corner, ch-5, and you will now be working in the round putting (1 dc+ ch-2) in every dc stitch and work the pattern as normal as if it were row 2. (TIP: The amount of rows you had, will be the amount of stitches you will have when you work in the round. (EX: If you had 9 rows of panel 1, then had 9 rows after to make panel 2, you will have 18 sts in the round).

Work round 1, until you get the desired length you want. I worked this until row 24, and then sc3tog decreased the ch-2's, and the dc stitches until I came to the end of round 25. This is totally optional

To do the second shoulder panel:

Join your yarn anywhere on the sweater (preferably at the bottom in a corner where nobody will notice your chains), and repeat round 1 again until you get the desired length desired. Weave in your ends, and you now have a super cute shrug for the fall :)

I used a #5 Bulky Yarn (Charisma 100% Acrylic) from Michaels, you can use ANY yarn you would like to use.

Different weights and different crochet hook sizes will vary in size so make sure you match your hook to your yarn always and never mix yarn weights in your projects. I also made this in #4 weight 100% acrylic as well, and it works just as well (all I did was add more chains- multiples of 3+2) of course.
