Annie Chen interviews Nicole Hayes, BCBA, LMSW, as she shares about her unique experience pursuing an LMSW after she became a BCBA and how this influences her clinical lens of what trauma is.
We explore trauma through a clinical, neurodevelopmental, and ethical lens, bridging the gap between traditional ABA practices and trauma-informed care. Drawing from the lived experience of a veteran, LMSW, and BCBA, we dive into how personal history shapes clinical perspectives, how chronic stress influences behavior, and how trauma is often misunderstood in both everyday language and within the DSM.
Participants gain tools to differentiate learned behavior from trauma-driven responses, recognize the impact of provider biases, and understand the critical timing of feedback and supervision.
Finally, we discuss practical strategies for BCBAs to ethically advocate, or “raise their voice,” in today’s field.
