Station 5 | SOI Divestream 865

Описание: We are sampling off the coast of Uruguay, on the continental shelf in the Atlantic Ocean, near La Poloma. This location is close to shore in the paleochannel. The objective of this dive is to collected marine sediments on the continental shelf of South America to understand the ecology and evolution of Asgard Archaea. These are a group of microbes that are closest to
eukaryotes (including plants and animals) on the tree of life. We will be diving in a shallow site just ~65m from the ocean surface. We are going to be using this mud to obtain genomes, culture, and do physiological experiments on the Asgard Archaea.
