This is the first school year that public schools statewide are mandated to offer free transitional kindergarten for kids as young as four. San Diego Unified has had this for years, but will add 180 more TK seats next school year. (NBC7)
Transitional Kindergarten provides a full day, optional grade of learning and serves as a bridge between preschool and kindergarten. TK follows the elementary school calendar and bell schedule while offering a play-based, developmentally appropriate experience.
