In a season-defining game, Penn State pulled out a squeaker. But not without some help. The Lions were sloppy in the first half, committing an unusual amount of turnovers which kept them off of the scoreboard. Aside from those miscues, both teams played very solidly, with the offensive fronts in control for most of the game. Purdue legend Mike Alstott ran for almost 150 yards while a host of Penn State backs piled on the rushing yards for consistent ground games for each team. And despite a questionable officiating call which gave Bobby Engram a touchdown in the second quarter, it was Engram who put Penn State in a position late in the fourth quarter to come from behind and score the winning touchdown.
Penn State's Top Performers:
Bobby Engram: 9 catches, 203 yards, TD
Brett Conway: 4 for 4 on field goals, 2 for 2 in extra points
Penn State gets its fourth win of the year to get back in the win column after having dropped its previous two games. Purdue lost its third game to bring its record to 2-3-1 on the year. The Boilermakers finished 1995 with a 4-6-1 record and failed to make a bowl game.
