Despite the recent announcement of an additional sustainability protocol, the EU-Mercosur trade agreement continues to fall short on animal welfare.
The session will examine why the deal remains weak, with increased market access for animal products produced under intensive farming systems and symbolic welfare safeguards. We will explore the likely impacts on farmed and wild animals, deforestation, and sustainable food systems, and consider what is at stake for animal welfare.
We are also pleased to confirm the participation of a Member of the Brazilian Parliament, who will share insights from the Mercosur region.
