I thought it would be a good idea to go and ride it one day. So in March 2024 off we went on the BMW R1250GS Adventure with full luggage, Dawn on the back and John on his Honda Blackbird, it can't be that hard to ride.

We rode 223 miles and stopped the night in a small place called Nether Wasdale and they even had a micro brewery. It rained all the way there and fortunately it stopped the next morning just as we set off to ride the Hardknott pass.

The Hardknott Pass is a mountain pass which rises to 400m (1,312ft) above sea level, located in the Duddon Valley of Cumbria, in England. It’s one of the steepest roads in England with a gradient of 1 in 3 (about 33%).

The road surface is shiny, bumpy and offers poor grip. On the day we rode the Hardknott pass the roads were wet and in places water was streaming across the road. It is extremely narrow road, the bends are tight and video just does not show how steep this road is. I found when I returned home that drone footage did the best job of showing just how severe this road is.

Would I ride the Hardknott Pass again 2 up, full luggage in the wet, absolutely not. I would ride it on my own in the dry.
