🔥 Learn how to make the perfect Advanced Cortado on the Breville/Sage Barista Express! This is our Advanced (LVL 2) recipe that focuses on precision, consistency, and workflow improvements over the basic version. ☕ About the Recipe:
A Cortado is a strong, concentrated drink made by combining a shot of espresso with a small amount of steamed milk. It’s ideal for those who want the richness of espresso with just a touch of sweetness and texture from the milk. For this Advanced (LVL 2) recipe, we served it in the Loveramics Urban Twisted Cortado Glass (120 ml), perfect for visual presentation and temperature retention.
☕ Ingredients:
• 18–20 g of fresh coffee beans (pre-dosed in single-dose tubes)
• 60–70 g of cold milk (from the fridge)
⚙️ Tools:
• Breville/Sage Barista Express
• Built-in grinder (hot-start method)
• Single-dose tubes
• RDT spray bottle
• WDT tool
• Bottomless portafilter
• Funnel
• Normcore tamping station + auto-level tamper
• Puck screen
• Mill thermometer (set to 60°C alert)
• 350 ml milk pitcher
• Loveramics Urban Twisted Cortado Glass (120 ml)
• Knockbox
• Precision scale

1️⃣ Prepare the Espresso
• Lightly mist the beans inside the single-dose tube with RDT.
• Start the grinder first (hot-start) and then pour the beans into the hopper.
• Grind directly into the portafilter using a funnel.
• Stir the grounds with WDT for even distribution.
• Tamp flat with the Normcore auto-level tamper and place the puck screen on top.
• Extract espresso (30–36 g yield) directly into the Loveramics Cortado glass.
2️⃣ Steam the Milk
• Pour cold milk into the 350 ml pitcher.
• Insert the thermometer and place the pitcher on the drip tray.
• Steam hands-free until the thermometer beeps at 60°C.
• The milk should be smooth and silky with light microfoam.
3️⃣ Combine & Serve
• Gently pour the steamed milk over the espresso, keeping the layers defined.
• Serve immediately and enjoy.
4️⃣ Clean Up
• Knock out the puck, clean the portafilter and group head, wipe the steam wand, and reset for the next drink.
