Ex IE 121 Class Loco 124 at Inch Abbey & Downpatrick while operating the Downpatrick & County Down Railway's European Heritage Weekend trains on a windy and wet Sunday 14th September 2025.
124 Which is owned by the ITG is 1 of only 2 121s that survive the other being 134 which is owned by the RPSI and is undergoing overhaul work to prepare her for a return to mainline service.
15 121 Class Locos were built for C.I.E by General Motors in La Grange , Illinois USA in 1960 & 1961.
These locos were used on everything from passenger trains , freight / mail trains to engineering trains during their working life.
The first 121 was withdrawn in 1986 (125) after being damaged in a fire the fleet then begin to dwindle in the 1990s after the new 201 Class had replaced them from most of their passenger duties.
By chance the last 121 Class locos left in service were 124 & 134 they were withdrawn in March 2008 before being passed onto the RPSI & ITG.
