Used to store biological samples from animals, plants or humans, biobanking is employed in a variety of sectors around the world.
In the case of medical research, biobanks can be used to store tissue samples, tumour cells, or DNA and blood samples which can help researchers carry out clinical studies to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
In collaboration with groups like the @universityofnewcastle NSW Health Pathology, and the @markhughesfoundation1 the biobanks at HMRI house samples from cancer and respiratory, to gastrointestinal disease and diabetes.
These samples can be used for unspecified future research, or for research which is occurring right now.
