Almost SPEARED by Marlins in Sardine Run! +1000 Mobulas and Humpback Whales in Bahia Magdalena, MX

Dive Site: Magdalena Bay in Baja Sur, Mexico 🐟🐋🦇

During October and November is the Baja sardine run that attracts blue striped marlins, who will hunt them in groups to increase their chances of success. After taking a panga over 2 hours off shore from Magdalena Bay, we spotted frigate birds circling above the dynamic bait balls, leading us to the breaching marlins. It was amazing on our first jump in to find over a dozen whizzing through the water. We made probably 10 jumps in with them since they were constantly moving. Twice I had close encounters for getting speared when the bait ball whizzed passed me while the marlins were chasing them! Such an incredible experience! We didn't see and sea lions, sharks, or orcas predating this day, however it isn't uncommon in Mag Bay.

On our way back closer to shore, we spotted some mobulas breaching which lead us to an aggregation of over 1000 rays below. We swam with them for nearly 30 minutes. As if that wasn't enough, we were blessed with a family of humpbacks on the last stretch home. They were protecting the new calf so they didn't stay too long, but to swim with them was amazing. The whole day was full of bucketlist experiences for me! Baja never disappoints 💙
