Portrait of an Angel, composed by jazz pianist Robert Glasper, was released on Glasper's 2005 album Canvas. The piece is one of the most beautiful tracks I have ever heard and I thought arranging it within the dark, woody sound of the clarinet would be a good pairing. The arrangement prominently features the first clarinet, with the rest of the group accompanying them. The arrangement also features other style sections not featured in the original recording, along with a bass clarinet solo. Portrait of an Angel is sure to be a fun challenge for any medium to advanced clarinet chamber group.
