Dal Bafla Recipe
Ingredients
For Bafla
• Wheat flour – 2 cups
• Semolina (sooji) – ½ cup
• Ghee – 3 tbsp
• Ajwain (carom seeds) – ½ tsp
• Baking soda – ¼ tsp (optional, traditional versions skip this)
• Salt – to taste
• Water – to knead
For Dal
• Toor dal – ½ cup
• Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
• Tomato – 1 (finely chopped)
• Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tsp
• Green chili – 1 (optional)
• Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
• Red chili powder – 1 tsp
• Coriander powder – 1½ tsp
• Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
• Hing (asafoetida) – a pinch
• Ghee/oil – 2 tbsp
• Salt – to taste
• Water – as needed
👩🍳 Method
Step 1: Prepare Bafla Dough
1. Mix wheat flour, semolina, salt, ajwain, baking soda, and ghee.
2. Knead into a firm dough using water.
3. Cover and rest for 20 minutes.
4. Divide into medium balls and shape into slightly oval baflas.

Step 2: Boil Bafla
1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
2. Add baflas and cook until they float up (8–10 minutes).
3. Remove and drain completely.
Step 3: Bake/Roast Bafla
• Oven method:
Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 25–30 minutes, turning once.
• Tandoor / Gas tawa method:
Roast on low flame until golden and crisp outside.
Step 4: Ghee Dip
• Dip hot baflas generously in melted ghee and keep aside.
🍲 Prepare the Dal
1. Wash and pressure-cook all dals with turmeric and salt.
2. Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds and hing.
3. Add onions, sauté till golden.
4. Add ginger-garlic, chili, tomatoes, and spices.
5. Cook till oil separates.
6. Add cooked dal, simmer 10–15 minutes.
7. Finish with coriander leaves.
🌿 Serving Suggestion
Serve hot Dal Bafla with:
• Extra ghee
• jaggery
• Onion rings &
• Buttermilk
