To foster good relations and rediscover cultures between Spain and the Philippines, President Benigno S. Aquino III hosted the Welcome Gala Reception for the Madrid-Fusion Manila, a gathering of the most innovative chefs around the world that bridges harmony within different countries through good food.

Attended by several businessmen, local and foreign chefs, and dignitaries from the Embassy of Spain, President Aquino thanked Madrid Fusion for holding its first event in Southeast Asia in the Philippines, saying that this is essential in the development of understanding and cooperation, not just for the Filipino people, but also for other races around the globe. He emphasized how Filipino food became a fundamental part of the nation’s identity.

“In a world where so many seem intent to divide us, food allows us to engage one another in a positive manner. After all, can we imagine a scenario where good food has produced a hostile reaction that led to violence, except maybe among chefs?,” he said.

In fact, the President hoped that the participants of the Madrid Fusion would see a little bit of everything that the Philippines has to offer, especially when 2015 was declared as Visit the Philippines year.

“I am certain that the Secretary of Tourism himself – the Honorable Mon Jimenez – will gladly prepare an itinerary so that you can truly see why everything, including eating, is more fun in the Philippines,” President Aquino asserted.

In partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), Madrid Fusion Manila highlights the Philippines as a culinary center of excellence in Asia, making this a great venue for chefs, food aficionados, and food company professionals to share their talent and expertise in the local and global market.
