Commissioned by the Internationales Brucknerfest Linz, this piece is part of the project ¨Rewriting Rott¨ and it is based on Scherzo a-Moll NoV 52, NoV 78 Nr. 1 (1875?) by Hans Rott.
It was performed by Daniel Freistetter at the Alter Dom in Linz (Austria), between September 5 and 10, 2021.

About the piece:
When I saw the manuscript of the piece Scherzo in A minor for piano, the first thing that caught my attention was that on the side of the second page were written —or drawn— countless ¨virgulillas¨ (tildes).
A manuscript contains much more interpretable information than an already edited score. You can see how the ideas materialize, how the composer has the ability to embody his thoughts —with more or less order— on paper.
I wonder why Hans Rott drew all those squiggles on the side. Perhaps they are the result of boredom, frustration, or utter despair. Maybe he was distracted, maybe he was just making sure that the amount of ink in his pen was the correct one before writing on the staves. Thinking about this I wrote (in)side scribbles.

Sobre la pieza:
Cuando vi el manuscrito del Scherzo en La menor para piano, lo primero que me llamó la atención fue que, en el margen derecho de la segunda página estaban escritas —o dibujadas— innumerables virgulillas.
Un manuscrito contiene mucha más información interpretable que la que tiene una partitura ya editada. Se puede ver cómo se materializan las ideas, cómo el compositor tiene la capacidad de plasmar sus pensamientos —con más o menos orden— en el papel.
Me pregunto por qué Hans Rott dibujó todos esos garabatos en el lateral. Quizás sean el resultado del aburrimiento, la frustración o la desesperación absoluta. Tal vez estaba distraído, tal vez solo se estaba asegurando de que la cantidad de tinta en su pluma fuera la correcta antes de escribir en el pentagrama. Pensando en esto, escribí (in)side scribbles.
