County government in collaboration with Kenya Forest Service is laying a strategy to increase the forest cover in the county to match that of the country.
Kenya has a forest cover of 13% while the county boast of 4.5% which is below the 10% recommended by the United Nations.
After a brief meeting with County leaders led by H.E Governor Benjamin Cheboi, EBS, EGH in his office in Kabarnet, the Chief Conservator of Forest for the Kenya forest Service, Alex Lomarkoko said that plans are underway to ensure that the 25million trees planted across the county recently are doubled next planting season.
"Our focus is to ensure that, Baringo attains the required forest cover since it is a vulnerable area particularly in matters climate change effects," he explained.
Governor Benjamin Cheboi, EBS, EGH promised to support the initiative keeping in mind the President's drive of attaining 15 billion trees in the country by the year 20232.
