Arise Shine is our theme this Advent & Christmas, taken from God's amazing promise to his people in Isaiah 60.1-5. As we come to the end of our voyage through the Chosen Blended Harmony of the Gospels we find ourselves at the beginning, reading of God's fulfilment of his promise to the Jewish people that widens to become his rescue plan for all creation, Immanuel, God with us, in Jesus. Luke sets out to give us an orderly account, Mark announces the Good News and John proclaims the Word of God that has become human and lived among us. All true, all rich, all wonderful, we dig deep into the mercy, love and grace of our God who instead of abandoning a broken creation, a rebellious people, sends the son of a virgin, as promised in Isaiah 7.14. "A child is born, a son is given and the government will be upon his shoulders" announces Isaiah 9.6 . This child, Jesus, born of Mary, is the arising and shining God promised through Isaiah all those years before and the author of all of our hope this day.
